Murder, Mayhem, and Merriment at The Stage Door: Clue: On Stage

If you love a good mystery with a side of laughter, Clue: On Stage is a theatrical treat. Based on the beloved board game and the cult-classic 1985 film, this campy whodunit takes the familiar characters and setting we all know (a mysterious mansion full of secrets) and brings them to life onstage with nonstop energy and humor. The play leans into parody and farce, keeping the suspense lighthearted while letting the comedy shine. What results is a hilarious romp where the audience gets the best of both worlds: the intrigue of a mystery and the joy of watching larger-than-life characters careen through chaos.

Each performer brings their role to life with flair. Mrs. Peacock (Barb Christensen) commands attention with her vibrant personality, lively chatter, and larger-than-life social presence, making her a delight every time she enters the scene. Miss Scarlet (Rachael Rose) is the perfect femme fatale: strikingly beautiful, sharp-witted, and cunning, with a cool confidence that keeps both characters and audience on their toes. Colonel Mustard (Brad Christensen) marches through the chaos with bold, booming energy, while Professor Plum (Robert Craig) leans into his sly intelligence and sharp timing. Mrs. White (Christine France) steals scenes with her cool, biting delivery—and even a few dance moves—and Mr. Green (Christian Navarrete) has the audience roaring with his nervous, clumsy charm. At the center of it all is Wadsworth (J. Bryan Dial), the butler, who carries the evening with impeccable timing, boundless energy, and a magnetic stage presence that ties the entire show together. Yvette (Allyson Twitchell), with her flirtatious charm and perfectly over-the-top antics, delights, while the cook (Katherine Wood), with her fiery personality, makes even brief appearances unforgettable. Adding in a detective (Garrett Mair), a lost motorist (Isaiah Mair), and a singing telegram (Jessie Osness), this ensemble becomes a whirlwind of comedic chaos, where every glance, stumble, and gasp adds to the fun.

One of the biggest challenges of staging Clue is representing a sprawling mansion full of secret rooms, dramatic chases, and slapstick chaos, which is no small feat for a small theater. But director Joshua Scott and his company rose to the challenge with impressive ingenuity. Inventive moving pieces and creative practical effects made the stage feel alive, transforming a single space into a house full of surprises. The transitions were as entertaining as the action itself, showing off not only technical skill but also a deep sense of play.

With fast-paced dialogue, sharp physical comedy, and just the right dash of suspense, this production of Clue was more than a play—it was an experience. The audience was in on the joke the entire time, and by the end, we were all grinning from ear to ear.
